Chapter 3.1a Creating grey from white and black

I started using Mixing White and Ivory Black to make a range of greys starting with white and adding black slowly. I noted how much black I was adding so I could refer back to the shades as easily as possible. I used acrylics throughout.







I then went out and bought some Payne's Grey and Titanium White and also a little mixing tool and  started the activity again. I much preferred the colour range produced by this combination of colours. I found it a softer range of shades.










I thought the move from the white to the first mixing of payne's grey was a little too much so I made a range of paler shades



I cut these out and made a series of shade cards as follows.




Then I spent time chosing 4 of these grey shades and diluted them with water to see the range of grey produced. I added some wax crayon as a resist
