Choosing References and Books (Chapter 2 Part 1, Module 6)

Oh back to book making, how exciting. I have a feeling this will be a long chapter so I thought I'd get my references and inspiring images in first before engaging in a bout of sample book making.

Useful References for this module in general

I've set aside a number of books to inspire me in this module and I've listed these below:

For general drawing and inspiration:

A couple of catalogues

And some book making specifics:

Inspiring Artists Books

Artists can choose from many binding techniques to make books that stand rather than lie flat. Whilst the majority of artists seem to choose an accordion or concertina structure for upright books, other methods include: tunnel books, gate fold books, pop up books, flag books, star books and books with a crown binding. Any of these books can include stitched bindings or stitching in general. I found a great many interesting and inspiring artists books to look at and some of these are included below.

Accordion and Concertina bindings:

These bindings can have additional inserts and pockets

Crown Binding

Flag and map fold books

Gate fold and Pamphlets

Books with vertical struts

Tunnel Books

Star Books

So not a lot to be getting on with!!!
