Introduction
The focus of this chapter was to create bisecting lines within simple shapes in black and white. In essence the work was inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. I love Andy Goldsworthy's work and found it hard not to go off on a tangent and away from the focus of the chapter; however I resisted the urge and kept within the brief, bar a little wandering with the pebbles.
Activity 3.5.1
I used newspaper painted with black gesso for the shapes as I was able to get a fair number of shapes from a single newspaper spread.
Working with bisected squares. Lots of ideas with squares and all of them worked well.
Making a rhythm using repeating squares with the same bisecting waveline. This worked really well.
Working with Circles: Had variable success with circles and found it best to stick with simple bisecting lines:
Making rhythms with bisected circles proved quite successful.
Working with bisected pebble shapes. The irregularity of the pebble shape worked well in this exercise:

Other Shapes: I made a heart shape with a bisecting heartbeat line. Nice idea but not much to develop
Developing the ideas: As I mentioned above, it was hard to curtail the possibilities with these shapes. Working with some gelli plate printed paper(which I'd made for some other task) I made some shapes and painted them in the manner of Andy Goldsworthy. Most enjoyable.

Extra Activity
Alas after weeks of infernal heat, the weather finally turned wet. However I ventured out into the garden with my camera. Under one of the apple trees were some windfalls and I arranged these in a 'Goldsworthy' spiral:

| Lots of really good textures and colours and bite marks!! (from the deer who live at the bottom of the garden) |
Adding some hydrangea flowers, both living and dead blooms:
