Introduction
The aim of this chapter was to find natural and man made shapes that could be interpreted as letter forms, such as a 'v' shape for example. It was much better fun than I had anticipated.
I started work on this chapter during the summer while I was out and about walking the dog and finished with images taken going around the house with my camera.
After downloading all my photos I found a photo collage app called Phototastic Collage and had a few goes until I got the measure of the package - in particular where the save button is located. I lost my first attempt at making an alphabet as I didn't see the save button until it was too late. I had to purchase the upgrade to incorporate a large number of images.
Natural and Manmade 'O' shapes
As I was out and about taking photos I became aware of how prevalent the shape 'O' is both in nature and as a shape used by man. So I did a few collage images as a homage to 'o'
Natural shapes
Man-made shapes
Using my own photographs
Once I Had downloaded all my photographs I went through them cropping them and enhancing a few for example
And cropping to make a 'c' shape
And
cropping to make a 'u' shape
I enhanced one or two letters to remove them from their context:
Lettering on a small brass Greek Orthodox tryptich increased in size, with quality enhanced and colour changed
I also had a few problems locating some shapes and so went back through earlier chapters in this module and used some letters I had looked at previously, including one by Jasper Johns.
