Handwriting (M2 Chapter 2)

This was a really enjoyable chapter with lots of ideas to revisit and develop further. Initially I found it quite hard to make something of my writing, that is to move from the functional to the creative. As with previous chapters some ideas worked much better than other. There was undoubtedly a lot to cover in this chapter to make the most of it.

I did try to write some sense at the start of the activities, but was reduced to utter nonsense by the end of the chapter.

Before moving on to the first activity I bought lots of pens, and had a go trying out my writing with different thicknesses of nib, calligraphy pens etc.

Use Handwriting to fill and decorate a page

1.Pen
I tried a few things out using only pen - handwriting pen, starting off by filling a page with my own writing:

Then making something more interesting

Trying to make up some of my own fonts, which is incredibly hard and explains why people are paid to do it.

2. Using Colouring Pencils

3. Pen and colouring pencils

4. Brush

5. Crayon as resist

Crayon and Pen

Layering crayon and water colour wash

6. Masking fluid as a writing medium

7. Watercolour crayon as base and for writing combining with pen/wax crayon

Handwriting patterns

This activity went much better than I expected and I was really pleased with the final outcome. I haven't done any creative doodling since I used to spend an awful amount of time sitting in meetings.....

I started with a short sentence and made sweeping lines to create a framework for the pattern, and then filled it in.

And a few details

With colour, and an apt description of teenage children:

Circles and Spirals

I thoroughly enjoyed this, in fact this may have been the highlight of the chapter for me and I will definitely revisit this theme.

Starting off simple then working with different pens, colours, etc.

Extra Activity

Capital Letters

I don't think this worked quite so well for me and I struggled a bit to make something I was happy with when I was doing the activity, however now I'm looking at the complete pieces together I'm not that disappointed.

(Sorry I forgot to rotate this, but piece when dry)

Using a pipette to write, shame I didn't think about this at the start
